Profile of the ACT

The Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) is the leading global provider of treasury education.

Established in the UK in 1979, it is a centre of excellence for professionals in treasury, corporate finance, risk and cash management operating in the international marketplace. With over 3,500 members, including representatives from over 95 per cent of the FTSE 100 companies, and 1,300 students in more than 40 countries, the ACT promotes study and best practice in finance and treasury management.

The ACT is represented on various government, regulatory and financial bodies, and is actively involved in contributing to, and commenting on, major policies and procedures.

In all of the many activities of ACT we are heavily dependent on the energy and enthusiasm of members who come from corporates, banks, other financial service providers, consultancy and academia.

The ACT's activities centre round seven main areas:

These core activities flourish together with other developments which include co-operative ventures with other professional Associations such as:

  • the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
  • the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
  • the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)

Council, Committees and Regional Groups
The ACT is governed by a non-executive Council of Members who are elected to serve for a term that usually lasts for three years. There are a number of Principal Officers on Council who serve for a term of one year:

  • A President
  • A Deputy President
  • A Vice President
  • An Immediate Past President
The normal succession is from Vice President to Deputy President to President to Immediate Past President, effective from 1 January annually.

The Chief Executive is an ex-officio member of Council and heads the central office (or "Executive").

Council is supported by a number of voluntary committees.

  • Education
  • Events and Publishing
  • Member Services
  • Policy and Technical
The Committees each have a Chairman who works closely with the appropriate department in the Executive.

There are also 14 regional and specialist groups in the UK and abroad. Through regular meetings, they provide a service to members, students and other interested parties. Each group is run by one or more members - Regional Group Organisers (RGOs). The RGOs are supported by the Member Services Manager.
