John is Policy and Technical Director. Previously he was Finance Director of the Global Confectionery division of Cadbury Schweppes plc and before that Director of Treasury at Cadbury Schweppes, responsible for Tax, Treasury, Corporate Finance (including M&A, project review and long-term planning), Property and Insurance.
John was Chairman of the Council of The Association of Corporate Treasurers for 1991 and 1992, after chairing the ACT’s Education Committee for some years. Prior to joining Cadbury Schweppes, John had had senior financial roles with BICC plc and with BL plc. He has an MSc from London University and an MBA from Manchester and is a Chartered Secretary as well as a Fellow of the ACT. Corporate governance and business ethics are a particular interest. He lives near Cambridge where he is involved as a business angel with a number of early stage companies. |

Peter Matza joined the Policy and Technical team in September 2006 as Technical Officer. Peter has been a member since 1992 and was made a Fellow in 2000. He served on the Programme Committee (1998-2000) and has spoken at numerous ACT Conferences. Peter joined from RWE Thames Water Plc where he had been in a variety of treasury posts for 16 years including four years based in Germany as Senior Manager, Head of Capital Markets at Thames Waters’ owner, RWE AG.
Peter started his finance career on a graduate programme at Lloyds Bank and completed his ACIB in 1986. His first role in treasury was at Babcock International and he then moved to Ladbroke Group before joining Thames Water nine months after its privatization, in August 1990. He completed his MCT in 1994. |

Martin O’Donovan joined the Policy and Technical team in November 2003. He was already familiar with the ACT having been a member since 1984 and having previously served on the Programme Committee. Prior to joining he was Group Treasurer of National Grid Group plc for 13 years where he was responsible for the creation and development of the Treasury function in the group as it came out from privatisation and grew into a major utility, active internationally. Two of his many capital markets issues won The Treasurer Deals of the Year awards.
His career, after a degree in Physics from Oxford, started by qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand. He then moved on to gain treasury experience at Redland, Hertz, and BTR. | |
