ICAEW Library and Information Service

The ICAEW Library and Information Service is a leading business library with an unrivalled collection of accounting and auditing publications and significant taxation, law, finance and management resources. The library is a pleasant and well resourced study centre in the historic heart of the City of London.

Located within Chartered Accountants' Hall, the library's full range of services is available to ACT members, affiliates and students. These include:

  • telephone, e-mail and fax enquiry services
  • company information
  • book loans
  • online information and resources

Visiting the library - temporary re-location

A new Business Information Centre is being built and as an ACT member or student you will have full access to the new facilities. During the re-development the library will be moved to temporary accommodation in the Members' Room in Chartered Accountants' Hall. The library is situated within easy reach of Moorgate, Bank and Liverpool Street stations, the temporary visitors entrance is via Moorgate Place EC2 until further notice.

How to use the Library Information Service

To visit the library or use the enquiry service by phone or email, say you are an ACT user and quote your ACT member/student or affiliate number. There is no need to register until the first time you borrow.

Library Resources

Resources available include:

Books - there are more than 40,000 volumes in the collection, with details available in the ICAEW's on-line catalogue.

Journals - over 250 current titles are taken, including all significant English language journals on accounting and auditing. The ICAEW on-line catalogue contains over 30,000 abstracts of articles.

Accounting Standards - these include the majority of standards issued by the major British, overseas and international agencies.

Company Financial Information - an up-to-date collection of business and finance directories, including the FAME DVD (financial details of 500,000 public and private companies plus address details of a further 1.3 million companies).

Law Reports - more than 150 law report series are covered, including tax and company law cases, supplemented by access to cases online via Lexis.

Taxation - all major UK tax manuals, including legislation, commentaries, cases and double tax agreements are available plus extensive tax information resources for other countries.

Historical Collection - an important collection of early works on accounting, including "Summa d'Arithmetica" by Luca Pacioli, published in 1494.
