Benefits of Membership

As well as constituting a common interest community among users of the financial markets, The ACT offers a number of services to all categories of member to enable them to remain up-to-date with best industry practice and facilitate effective networking.

Qualifications
The use of the designatory letters AMCT, MCT, FCT is only available to current members. These highly respected qualifications enable individuals to demonstrate their knowledge of the key skills that are essential for careers in treasury, risk management and corporate finance.

Technical Services
As the voice of our members, and more widely the treasury community, the ACT comments on a number of important issues. Most recently this has included the IAS 39, LMA standard loan documentation and rating agency regulation. The ACT is free to make points individual treasurers could be constrained from making.

In addition we provide:
  • Online knowledge service Containing downloadable resources on all aspects of treasury and risk management as well as diagnostic tests on the "five pillars of wisdom", this is an important learning tool.
  • Technical queries A limited technical queries service is available here

    ICAEW Library & Information Service
    The ICAEW Library & Information Service is a leading business library with unrivalled holdings of publications in accounting and auditing; and important collections in taxation, law, finance and management. The Library is a pleasant and well resourced study centre in the historic heart of the city.

    Located within Chartered Accountants' Hall, ACT members and students (including those that are studying or have passed the Cert ICM) have access to the full range of services offered. These include:
  • a telephone, e-mail and fax enquiry service
  • company information
  • book loans
  • the online collection of information and resources

    Publications
    A complimentary copy of all new publications in our Business of Finance series is sent to Fellows on issue and they are available to Members and Associate Members at special rates. Special member rates are available to all categories of members on other titles. The following are also freely available to all members:

  • The Treasurer Highly respected and authoritative professional journal, providing updates, practical guidance and informed comment on major treasury issues.

  • The Treasurer’s Handbook Provides essential information for the professional financier and anyone involved in the treasury function. It is an excellent reference point for many of thequestions most frequently raised by members.

  • ACT Directory A handy reference source giving contact details of all members, listed alphabetically under both surname and company. Neatly dovetails with the searchable on-line directory in the members only section of the website.

    Events
    A number of events are run throughout the year, including our ‘essential treasury training’. Discounted rates are available to members on all ACT events where a charge is made.

  • Symposia and Papers Available to all categories of members and their guests only, Symposia provide an opportunity to network, whilst listening to informed speakers talking on subjects that are both topical and relevant to the modern day treasurer. Wider networking is available at evening Papers, which are open to the public.

  • Regional Groups Each of our regional groups provide a forum for discussion and networking, enabling members to keep in contact with each other around their local area of work or residence.

    Our authoritative website, which is constantly updated, provides information on the current activities of the ACT and highlights the areas of concern for those working in the treasury and risk management professions. Members also benefit from the following:

  • Continuing Professional Development A leading edge knowledge service, designed for treasury professionals to check their understanding of specific areas. Competence is assessed across core treasury topics and individual areas of expertise. All tests are free and personal scores remain confidential.

  • Currency Converter from Bank of Canada Contains an extensive record of historic rates across a wide range of currencies. Rates generally go back 10 years for the principal currencies and 5 years for other currencies.

  • Recruitment Services - Updated on a regular basis, this service shows relevant treasury positions from the biggest recruiters in the finance and treasury fields, as well as individual vacancies from employers themselves.

  • Reuters Messaging - Reuters messaging is a real-time communications tool designed to meet the needs of professionals in the financial industry. Enabling market professionals to contact each other instantly, this powerful tool means information gets to the right people at the right time – meaning more informed decisions and greater productivity.

  • Royal Bank of Scotland real-time rates - Provides a quick overview of essential data for day-to-day operations. Royal Bank of Scotland Financial Markets supply a data feed of certain major foreign exchange and interest rates in addition to selected news items.
