ACT Middle East

21 January 2009

The first talkingtreasury event for ACT Middle East took place on Monday 19 January 2009 at the Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai.

Over 100 finance and treasury professionals from Government of Dubai, ADIC, Agility, DP World, Dubai World, Halliburton, Inchcape Shipping, Majid Al Futtaim, Mubadala Development Company, Emirates NBD and HSBC discussed the role of the treasurer, cash management, implementing best practice in risk management and treasury management, security and controls. The first of many events in the Middle East, talkingtreasury - Dubai provided practical guidance through real-life examples and anecdotes from local as well as international treasury teams.

Delegates came from a broad spectrum of countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar.

Key findings included the treasurer as the risk management champion within an organisation. The forum discussed how the management of risk has extended beyond the traditional operational and financial risk to include hazard and strategic risk.

Marwan Abedin, chairman of the event and Director, Funds Management at the Department of Finance, Government of Dubai commented:
talkingtreasury provides a ground breaking forum in which treasurers can talk openly amongst colleagues about the key issues affecting the profession. The discussions were thought-provoking and key findings included the developing role of the treasurer within the Middle East.”
