Treasurers celebrate successful deals

The Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) today declared Cable and Wireless overall winner of the prestigious Deals of the Year Awards 2009.

• Cable and Wireless (C & W plc) has won the ACT Deals of the Year Award for its £230m Convertible Bond issued by C & W plc, to be transferred to C&W Worldwide post its demerger from C & W plc, in March 2010
• Rolls-Royce won the Large Cap Treasury Team of the Year (market cap over £2bn)
• ITV was awarded the Mid Cap Treasury Team of the Year (market cap under £2bn)

Stuart Siddall, Chief Executive of the ACT, said:

 Funding was the mantra for 2009. Treasurers moved quickly in early 2009 to secure funding when the markets relaxed after the financial crisis. Today’s awards reflect the skilled professionalism of treasury teams. The Deals of the Year Awards are organised by the ACT's The Treasurer magazine and are supported by Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets. They are the only treasury awards where the winners are judged by fellow practitioners. Winners were announced at an awards ceremony dinner held at One Whitehall Place, London on Wednesday 3 February 2010 attended by treasurers and finance directors from leading UK and continental European companies.

The Deals of the Year Awards

2009 marks the 12th anniversary of the prestigious Deals of the Year Awards organised by The Treasurer, the official magazine of the ACT and supported, for the fifth year, by Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets.

These awards recognise the achievements of the corporate treasurer in successfully accessing the debt and equity markets on behalf of their company. The basic criterion for the awards is that they show “excellence in corporate treasury”, by which we mean sound treasury management, efficient pricing, innovative structures and / or relative success in prevailing market conditions. All types of deals including bonds, loans, liability management and equity raising are eligible from corporates domiciled in the UK and a broad definition of continental Europe.

The Treasury Team of the Year awards recognise the teams in different sizes of corporates that stood out most across the different aspects of treasury, including cash management, risk, corporate finance, treasury operations and corporate governance.
