AMCT Bursary

The ACT offers bursaries to assist students from developing countries who cannot gain sponsorship for their studies, to study for the AMCT Diploma in Treasury - the ACT's core treasury qualification which leads to associate membership. See the bursary profile.

The scheme

Bursaries are available to cover the cost of the correspondence course for stage three papers (excluding CertICM). The correspondence course comprises the study material (manuals), past papers and the examination1. Students in receipt of the bursaries will also receive The Treasurer magazine on a monthly basis.

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for a bursary if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are a national of a developing country who is normally resident in that country, or in an equivalent country. For the purposes of this scheme, a ‘developing country’ is a country with a GDP per capita of less than $12,500. A list of the countries can be found below.
  • You qualify for exemption from the stage one foundation papers or have passed them.
Exemptions from stage one foundation papers are available for qualified accountants and those with previous relevant qualifications.
  • You are not sponsored by your company, or not working for a company that normally sponsors students for the ACT’s examinations. Please note that applications from individuals working for multinational companies or banks that have a record of sponsoring students for the ACT’s examinations are not likely to be considered.

Application procedure

1. Check that you are exempt from the stage one foundation pages or have passed them.

If you are applying for exemptions, please allow sufficient time for your application to be considered prior to the deadline for submission of your bursary application.

2. Complete the bursary application form and return it to the ACT, making sure that you give full information about your qualifications, work experience and candidate statement.

3. Complete the enrolment and booking form and enclose a copy of your qualification certificate. You must submit a certified copy which has been signed and endorsed by the official stamp of the awarding body.

Applications arriving after the deadline date will not be considered, whatever the reason for the late arrival. It may therefore be prudent to send the form by fax or email. Thereafter, applications will be considered for the two examination sittings each year. The deadlines for submission are as follows:

For the April examination: 15 September
For the October examination: 15 March

Dates by which candidates will be notified of the success of their application are as follows:

For the April examination: 1 November
For the October examination: 1 May

Selection procedure

The ACT’s Education Trust will decide on the award of bursaries and the Trust’s decision is final. The Trust will only consider applications made which meet the above criteria. If there is competition for the available bursaries, the Trust will consider which candidates have demonstrated that they have the potential to make the greatest contribution to the profession. Candidates will be notified of the outcome of their application in writing.

Retrospective applications

Applications will be accepted from eligible individuals who have already enrolled for an associate level paper under the new syllabus only.

Entry into the UK

The bursaries do not cover fees for tuition and cannot be used as evidence of the need to enter the UK. The ACT can offer no assistance or advice on this matter.
