My current role introduced me to a lot of new challenges, including the management of foreign currencies which involved varied foreign exchange controls, dealing with corporates, foreign banks outside of China and arranging cash flows. I did not have the experience within these areas of treasury or the means of learning this knowledge. After consulting a colleague who is a UK ACCA member, currently working as a financial controller for Motorola, it was recommended that I look into the ACT and the syllabus for the AMCT Diploma in Treasury qualification. I found that the ACT was the ideal organisation to provide the knowledge I required via the syllabus coverage of AMCT.
The AMCT syllabus is practical and instantly provided me with the knowledge and best practice guidelines I needed which I instantly utilised at work. The liquidity and risk management aspects of the course were particularly useful. I found that the AMCT syllabus contained details of these areas that are closely related to the financial management issues which are commonly experienced at work. Other programmes do not have this level of coverage in their syllabuses. In addition the AMCT qualification manuals proved invaluable, they are wonderful. The detailed guidelines provided are practical. I refer to the guidelines provided in the course manuals to manage liquidity and risk management issues. They are a great reference tool and I highly recommend them as a resource in day-to-day work.
Achieving the AMCT Diploma has definitely brought practical benefits to my current role. What you learn will be experienced at work and the advanced knowledge gained provides a more comprehensive understanding of work issues. The understanding I gained in the management of liquidity and financial risks of an organisation has definitely helped me. As a result of the AMCT study programme the knowledge I acquired aided me in the signing of a cash pooling agreement between my organisation and China Merchants Bank to improve the liquidity management of the company. Additionally as a result of the course I signed a foreign exchange forward contract with Citibank to protect the company from appreciation of RMB to USD. So yes I have certainly reaped the benefits by studying for the AMCT Diploma.
As an ACCA and AICPA member, I am no stranger to professional qualifications. Although my accounting qualifications taught me a great deal and assisted my career progression to senior level the addition of AMCT has provided me with advanced knowledge and has resulted in me developing an esteemed reputation within the financial management profession. Becoming AMCT qualified has developed my financial management career and will continue to do so in both the short and the long term.
