AMCT Exemptions
Exemptions from the four stage one foundation papers of the AMCT Diploma in Treasury are available for qualified accountants and those individuals with previous relevant qualifications.
Automatic exemptions
If your qualification is listed on our exemptions list you are eligible for exemption and can immediately proceed with enrolment. To enrol, just enclose a photocopy of proof of your qualification (copies of the certificates must be certified by the Awarding Body) along with your enrolment & booking form.
Exemptions are not awarded if you have not completed the professional qualification. Completion is classified as passing all of the necessary examinations, but does not require you to have completed any necessary work experience.
- See our exemptions list to check whether you are entitled to an automatic exemption. (PDF 41K)
- If you are ACCA qualified, a CIMA member/student, an ICAEW member or an ICAS member, please go to AMCT Fast-Track to see if you are eligible for this route.
If you have a qualification for which exemptions are granted automatically, please complete the exemptions section in the enrolment form. You must apply for exemptions before you enrol.
Individually reviewed exemptions
If your qualification is not listed in the automatic credit list, you need to apply to have your relevant degree course/professional qualification reviewed on an individual basis.
How to apply
- Send in an official copy of the full syllabus from which you studied (a website link or course outline is not acceptable). Non-English syllabi must be translated into English before being submitted.
- Using the exemption application form provided, cross-reference the relevant areas from your degree/professional qualification syllabus against the AMCT syllabus. Applications submitted without the syllabi cross referenced will NOT be processed.
- Include a photocopy of your certificate/proof of completion plus confirmation of the modules studied (copies of the certificates must be certified by the Awarding Body, you can send a photocopy of the certificate but the certification cannot be a copy.)
Exemptions can take three to six weeks to be reviewed and you will be notified in writing of the outcome, stating which, if any, exemptions you have been awarded. No fees are charged to have your exemptions application reviewed.
The ACT is unable to comment on the likelihood of exemptions being awarded prior to assessment. It is the responsibility of the student to provide any information required with regard to exemptions. The decision of the ACT on the award of exemptions is final and appeals against the exemptions review decision will not be accepted.
AMCT enrolment deadlines
Once a decision has been made regarding your application for exemptions, you may then enrol on to the next available examination sitting. You may choose to enrol whilst your application for exemptions is being reviewed, submit your enrolment and booking forms along with your exemption application. This option is NOT recommended to students seeking exemptions from all four stage one foundation papers.
If you are awarded four exemptions either by the automatic or the individually reviewed route (as detailed above) you will have three years to complete the AMCT Diploma from your first examination sitting.
If you are awarded between one and three exemptions on the individually reviewed basis you have five years to complete the AMCT Diploma from your first examination sitting.
It is important you submit all applications for exemptions at least six weeks prior to the enrolment deadlines to give us sufficient time to process your application.
Exemptions fees
An exemption fee is charged per paper from which you are exempt. This does not apply for fast-track students. See our Fee sheet (PDF 22K) for the exemption fees.
Exemption from all AMCT Diploma papers
The ACT allows exemptions against all seven AMCT papers and therefore direct entry onto the MCT Advanced Diploma qualification in the following circumstances:
- Individuals who have passed the Irish Association of Corporate Treasurers' Graduate Certificate in Corporate Treasury.
- Senior treasury and finance professionals may be eligible to enrol directly onto the MCT Advanced Diploma study programme. Direct entry requires experience in a senior treasury or finance position, including a significant track record in corporate finance and/or risk management decision making.
It takes up to four weeks to review an application for direct entry and therefore full documentation should be submitted in hard copy format no later than four weeks before the enrolment deadline.
Individuals who are accepted for direct enrolment onto the MCT Advanced Diploma study programme will be exempted from the AMCT Diploma, but will not gain the designatory letters AMCT.
