If you are eligible for automatic exemptions simply complete the exemption section on the AMCT enrolment and booking form and remember to enclose photocopy proof of your qualification.

Individually reviewed exemptions

If your qualification is not listed in the automatic exemption list, you need to apply to have your relevant degree course/professional qualification reviewed on an individual basis.

How to apply for exemptions

  • Send in an official copy of the full syllabus from which you studied (a website link or course outline is not acceptable). Non-English syllabi must be translated into English before being submitted.
  • Using the exemption application form provided, cross-reference the relevant areas from your degree/professional qualification syllabus against the AMCT syllabus. Applications submitted without the syllabi cross referenced will NOT be processed.
  • Include a photocopy of your certificate/proof of completion plus confirmation of the modules studied (copies of the certificates must be certified by the Awarding Body, you can send a photocopy of the certificate but the certification cannot be a copy.)

The ACT is unable to comment on the likelihood of exemptions being awarded prior to assessment. It is the responsibility of the student to provide any information required with regard to exemptions. The decision of the ACT on the award of exemptions is final and appeals against the exemptions review decision will not be accepted.

Exemptions can take three to six weeks to be reviewed. You will be notified in writing of the outcome, stating which, if any, exemptions you have been awarded. No fee is charged to have your exemptions application reviewed.

Once a decision has been made regarding your application for exemptions, you may enrol on to the next available examination sitting. You may choose to enrol whilst your application for exemptions is being reviewed, submit your enrolment and booking forms along with your exemption application. This option is NOT recommended to students seeking exemptions from all four stage one foundation papers.

If you have checked the exemptions list but are still not sure if you are eligible please email exemptions@treasurers.org

MCT Advanced Diploma - direct entry

The ACT allows exemptions against all seven AMCT papers and therefore direct entry onto the MCT Advanced Diploma qualification in the following circumstances:

  • Individuals who have passed the Irish Association of Corporate Treasurers' Graduate Certificate in Corporate Treasury.
  • Candidates who hold the Sheffield Hallam University MA in Banking and Finance or the Sheffield Hallam University MA in Risk Management and whom the ACT deems to have experience in a senior treasury or finance position can enrol directly onto MCT. The ACT will determine whether the professional experience of the candidate is appropriate. Candidates should apply to the ACT in writing, with proof of their SHU qualification.
  • Senior treasury and finance professionals may be eligible to enrol directly onto the MCT Advanced Diploma study programme. Direct entry requires experience in a senior treasury or finance position, including a significant track record in corporate finance and/or risk management decision making.

It takes up to four weeks to review an application for direct entry and therefore full documentation should be submitted in hard copy format no later than four weeks before the enrolment deadline.

Individuals who are accepted for direct enrolment onto the MCT Advanced Diploma study programme will be exempted from the AMCT Diploma, but will not gain the designatory letters AMCT.
