FME Training
FME Training provides classroom courses and technical query service for various AMCT foundation and associate papers and certificates. Courses and course materials are written to follow ACT materials, are exam focused and emphasise active learning. FME works closely with the ACT and ACT examiners in all areas.
ICAS
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) provides the tuition for the AMCT foundation papers. All lecturers at the ACT courses have substantial teaching experience coupled with a range of practical and theoretically expertise.
Michèle Allman-Ward
CertICM tutor
Michèle Allman-Ward is the Managing Partner of Allman-Ward Associates Inc., a company specialising in strategic planning, business unit development, training, project management and market research with particular emphasis on international treasury management.
Michèle qualified as a CertICM in 1999 with a distinction. She now works closely with the ACT and is the lead trainer for the CertICM qualification.With over twenty years of banking and consulting experience, Michèle is an internationally respected expert on cash management, and brings valuable depth and understanding to the course content. She is highly regarded in the cash management industry and is a frequent speaker at conferences and contributor to professional publications including ‘The Essentials of Managing Corporate Cash’ and ‘A Guide to US Cash Management for European Treasurers’. Her banking experience includes senior positions with JPMorgan, Bankers Trust, Bank of Boston, First Interstate and Wells Fargo.
David Bennett-Rees
CertRMP tutor
David has over thirty five years experience in finance, specialising in actuarial and pension roles. After qualifying as an Actuary in 1976, David spent 15 years as the finance partner of a firm of stockbrokers, specialising in providing investment advice to pension funds, particularly on Bonds. He was also involved in educating Actuaries and co-wrote the Institute of Actuaries’ investment textbook. He was recently Head of Pensions Services at London Transport for 10 years, gaining wide experience of all aspects of pension policy. David is Chairman of Trustees for a number of pension funds and advises companies on investments and pension policy. He is also an Independent Trustee of the University of London Pension Scheme (SAUL).
Anthony Birts
CertICM tutor
Anthony Birts is a Director of Part Time MBA Programmes and Lecturer in Finance at the University of Bath School of Management. Prior to joining the University, Anthony was a Vice President at Bank of America NT and SA in Global Treasury Services. As well as lecturing at Bath and helping to develop the CertICM course, Anthony is Visiting Lecturer at the Cass Business School (formerly City University Business School), and has published a number of articles in the areas of finance and cash management.
John Hawkins
CertRMP tutor
Since graduating with a degree in Natural Sciences in 1973, John has spent all of his working life in finance. After four years in stockbroking, he returned to university for the first time in 1977 for his MBA. Since then he has worked exclusively in the broader treasury area, with responsibilities that have extended beyond conventional treasury into corporate finance, pensions, investment management, investor relations, insurance and risk management. He has held the position of Group Treasurer at Invensys plc, LucasVarity plc, TI Group plc and the Vestey Group. He returned to university for the second time in 1999, taking an MSc in Insurance and Risk Management.
John is a frequent contributor of articles to The Treasurer magazine, an occasional lecturer on ACT courses and was Chairman of the 2005 Treasurers’ Conference.
Ian Jakeways
CertFMM and CertRMP tutor
Ian has over 20 years experience of designing and teaching financial training programmes. He was an examiner on the MCT examination board until 2002, responsible for Advanced Funding and Risk Management. His experience covers teaching practitioners in Europe, the US and Asia and he has ensured that his training is rooted in practical application.
Dubos.J.Masson
CertICM tutor
D.J. Masson is President of the Resource Alliance and over the past 20 years has been providing business and financial consulting and training services to a wide variety of corporations, financial institutions, and not-for-profit organisations. D.J. is a frequent conference speaker and is the author of numerous articles and financial textbooks including ‘Essentials of Treasury Management’, ‘Essentials of Cash Management’ and ‘Treasurer’s Handbook of Financial Management’. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Graziadio School of Business and Management at Pepperdine University. D.J. holds an MBA and Ph.D. in Finance from Indiana University and professional certifications from both the UK and US treasury associations.
Michael Northeast
MCT Advanced Diploma tutor
Michael Northeast is a Fellow and past Chairman of the Association of Corporate Treasurers. He spent the majority of his corporate career in senior Finance roles in a broad mix of industry sectors. Specific companies include Rothmans International, Rover, BAe Systems, Dixons (as Group Treasurer) and latterly, Kuwait Petroleum International where he became Finance Director for the Benelux Operating Company based in The Netherlands. He left in 2003 to set up Gairloch Consulting Ltd, an independent Corporate Advisory Consultancy and to further a long held ambition of relocating to the coast of North-West Scotland. Michael holds a Masters Degree in Psychology and an MBA. He is currently Deputy Chairman and Hon. Treasurer of Age Concern England. He has also been a NHS Trust Non-Executive Director.
Doug Williamson

With over fifteen years experience in financial management education, Doug is a widely respected tutor who brings depth and understanding to the course. Before specialising in financial education, Doug was previously an accountant with KPMG and an in-house tax manager with Virgin Entertainment Group.
Kerry Attwell-Thomas
MCT Advanced Diploma tutor
Kerry started his career at Price Waterhouse in the early 80s before moving into the corporate world. Several planning and financial control roles later he arrived in treasury and completed the MCT Diploma in 1993, so can empathise with some of the trials and tribulations that students face whilst holding down a full time day job. His treasury experience is mainly in the LBO sector. He was the CFO at Ineos, the petrochemical conglomerate, where he arranged the initial buyout finance and subsequently worked on several major acquisitions including Lucite International, the European Vinyls Corporation and Degussa’s (now Evonik) Phenolchemie business.
Kerry is a mathematics graduate, Chartered Accountant and Corporate Treasurer and holds a Postgraduate Certificate of Education.
