What are the key implications of defined benefit schemes for treasurers?

Defined benefit (DB) pension schemes are occupational pension schemes that provide a set level of pension at retirement.

Since the rise of interest rates and the gilt market crisis of Septemeber 2022, many defined benefit pension schemes have seen their funding levels improve significantly. This presents a new opportunity and challenge for treasurers of their corporate sponsors, both in managing pension risk and unlocking potential value for the company.

Cardano joined us for a webinar to provide an overview of DB schemes.

In this webinar, our expert speakers
  • provided an overview of the regulatory playing field for DB schemes
  • explored the role of the treasurer in managing DB scheme risk
  • discussed options for the scheme’s ultimate ‘end game’ and how to navigate the pension stakeholder during M&A deals.
