The ACT in its written evidence explained why such a tax would be damaging to the real economy. Rather than being a tax borne by the financial services sector it would inevitably flow through to the end customers and represent an addition to the cost of capital for companies and hence be a negative for economic activity. If revenue raising is an imperative then a financial activities tax on profits after adding back remuneration would be preferable.
