Blockchain for Corporate Treasury Training | The Association of Corporate Treasurers

Blockchain for Corporate Treasury Training

ACC Liverpool, Liverpool
20 May 2024

Join us and our training partner, Zanders, at the ACC Liverpool on 20 May 2024, the day before the ACT Annual Conference, for an in-person half-day introduction to Blockchain for Corporate Treasury.

The launch of Bitcoin in 2009 marked a major milestone in the development of blockchain technology and digital assets. Since then, the awareness of these emerging technologies has gradually spread across various industries, and they are now part of most strategy discussions. As blockchain technology and digital assets conquer the mainstream, treasurers will need to adapt to new technologies, investment opportunities, and regulatory frameworks.

Is the course right for you?

This course is right for you if you are:

  • a treasury or banking professional looking to learn about blockchain fundamentals as well as the latest trends in payments, digital assets and decentralised finance
  • someone who wants to understand how the metaverse will impact corporate treasury departments
  • a treasury professional keen to learn about live use cases of blockchain for corporate treasury activities
  • a treasury professional who needs to adapt to elements of blockchain systems (e.g. DeFi, the metaverse and bitcoin/stablecoin).

What will you gain from the course?

The aim of the course is to give corporate treasurers a firm understanding of current trends and the application of blockchain technology in corporate treasury. The course is split into two main sessions focusing on applications and use cases, followed by a Q&A session.

Arrival and refreshments 13:15.

Session 1 - Introduction to Blockchain and Key Trends 13:30-14:45

This session will focus on applications and key trends in the blockchain space. A brief introduction to blockchain technology will be given. Following the brief introduction of key terminology, the most prominent blockchain networks Bitcoin and Ethereum are examined. Key trends of blockchain technology primarily comprise the applications of Decentralised Finance (DeFi), the Metaverse and Digital Assets.

The DeFi section focuses on stablecoins, financial products on a decentralised infrastructure, Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) and makes the connection to digital assets. The metaverse section sheds light on Non-fungible Tokens (NFTs) and current applications such as blockchain gaming platforms. The aim is to give corporate treasurers a basic understanding of blockchain applications to build upon this knowledge in session 2.

Break - 14:45-15:00

Break from 14:45-15:00, a great opportunity to talk to your fellow peers.

Session 2 - Blockchain in Treasury 15:00-16:15

This session will focus on how treasury is affected by blockchain technology. Different case studies are presented and evaluated, including the combination of corporate treasury with stablecoins, programmable payments, new ways to lend and borrow, as well as an overview of emerging systems (e.g. SAP digital currency hub).

Alongside these new opportunities, new risks arise with the integration of this technology into existing systems. One example is that transactions on blockchain networks are executed pseudonymously, which poses questions surrounding KYC, AML and CFT regulations. The course will critically assess opportunities, risks, and emerging solutions for corporate treasurers.

Q&A - 16:15-16:30

Robert will answer any questions participants may have.
