Enhancing the UK as an attractive place to do business, to deliver ‘good growth in every postcode’.
The Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) has today congratulated the new Prime Minister and Chancellor on their appointments, and has set out ways in which the Government can take steps to enhance the UK as an attractive place to do business, in order to grow the economy.
As the voice of the real economy, the ACT supports policy that will enable corporates to have greater clarity, predictability and therefore confidence to contribute to the future growth of UK plc. Our headline proposals include: ensuring access to capital; upgrading skills and technology for the digital economy; promoting international trade and cooperation; and developing a standalone, coordinated strategy to attract and retain the next generation of corporate treasury centres.
Commenting on the formation of the new government, Annette Spencer, Chief Executive of the ACT, said:

Delivering this will depend on creating the right conditions for businesses of all sizes to invest with greater confidence, avoiding the recent disconnect between pro-growth aspirations and delivery. Corporate treasurers are at the heart of financing those investments, unlocking capital to drive long-term growth and helping their organisations to manage associated risks.
That’s why we want to work with ministers to support a competitive and resilient business strategy which will attract and retain the next generation of corporate treasury centres in the UK. Doing so would strengthen the UK’s position as a global financial centre, in turn helping to finance new investment within the UK.”
