Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a student membership and a learning licence?

Student membership provides access to ACT member benefits, such as selected events, resources, publications and networking opportunities. A learning licence gives you access to the ACT's online learning materials, resources and allows you to sit assessments for your qualification or MicroCredential. The two are linked, with student membership being included for the duration of an active learning licence.

How long does student membership last?

Student membership is linked to your learning licence and remains active for the duration of your qualification or MicroCredential access period. If you extend your learning licence, your student membership will also be extended for the same period.

What happens if my student membership expires and I have not completed the course?

If your student membership expires because your learning licence has ended and you have not completed your course; you will lose access to both your learning materials and student membership benefits.

To continue studying, you will need to purchase a learning licence extension, which will also reinstate your student membership for the duration of the extension.

To purchase a learning licence extension, please contact the Education team at education@treasurers.org.

Can I extend my student membership between qualifications and still access my benefits?

In this case, you can become an Affiliate member, which gives you access to all the member benefits you received as a student member. If you then decide to continue with another qualification, you can either take out a new student membership or study a MicroCredential as an Affiliate member.

You can’t study a full qualification as an Affiliate member, as only student membership allows access to the full qualification learning material.

Can I be a student member without actively studying for a qualification?

No, student membership is only for those enrolled on a qualification.

If you aren’t ready to study but would like access to member benefits, you can become an Affiliate member.

What is the difference between student membership and affiliate membership?

Student membership is linked to your learning licence and remains active for the duration of your qualification or MicroCredential access period. Affiliate membership is a 12-month membership renewable each year.

The benefits of membership are the same, with the exceptions:

  • Affiliate membership gives you access to the members directory, whereas student membership doesn’t

  • Student membership gives access to full qualification learning materials, whereas Affiliate membership doesn’t.

If I am an Affiliate, Associate, or Fellow member and wish to do a qualification or MicroCredential, do I still need to purchase a student membership?

You can study a MicroCredential as an Affiliate, Associate, or Fellow member, as long as you hold an active membership for the duration of your course.

To study a full qualification, you would need to switch to a student membership.

After I have passed a qualification, do I automatically progress to the next level of membership?

Once you have successfully completed one of our Certificate qualifications, you will be automatically switched to Affiliate membership for the length of time you have left on your student membership. Once this expires, you will be invited to renew your Affiliate membership.

If you have successfully completed the Diploma in Treasury Management qualification, you will be invited to apply for Associate membership.

What financial support is available for studying an ACT qualification?

Financial support may be available depending on your circumstances and location.

The ACT Educational Trust offers a bursary scheme for eligible students in developing countries who are unable to fund their studies, while the ACT Fitch Treasury Scholarship provides fully funded qualification routes for eligible Black and Asian professionals based in the UK or Europe.

Both schemes have specific eligibility criteria, so we recommend reviewing the relevant scheme to find the most appropriate route for you.
