Get Set up for Your Assessment

Make sure your equipment, internet connection and assessment environment meet the requirements before assessment day. Completing these checks in advance will give you time to resolve any issues.

Choose Where You Will Sit Your Assessment

IMPORTANT: You must not sit your assessment at work or use a work laptop. Organisational firewalls can interfere with the assessment.

Choose somewhere quiet and private, with a reliable internet connection, where you will not be disturbed or interrupted.

Make sure you have a comfortable place to sit for the duration of your assessment.

Read the Guides

Before booking or taking an assessment, please read the candidate quick start guide. It outlines the correct requirements you need to successfully take your exam online.

Make sure you have also read the Assessment Rules and Regulations[RA3.1], which applies to all students taking assessments with the ACT.

Your mobile device or tablet is required to run the ProctorExam app for invigilation. You will not complete your assessment on your mobile device.

You will need a reliable internet connection with:

  • internet tethering/mobile hotspot.

Once you're happy that your equipment meets the requirements above, you can test the devices you plan to use for your assessment.

Check your Equipment

IMPORTANT: If you do not complete the system set up check, you may not be permitted to take the live assessment on the day.

You will receive an email with a link to a system check which will test your equipment before the exam.

For on-demand exams (CertT, CertICM, CertTF, AwardICM and MicroCredentials) the link to test your equipment will be sent by email 72 hours before your exam.

For Diploma in Treasury Management, CertSFT and CertBALM you will receive an email with the link to test your approximately two weeks before your exam.

Contact the Assessment team [RA5.1]if you have not received your system check link or if you have any issues completing the check.

Please note that if you are sitting more than one exam, you will receive an email and need to complete the check, for each exam you are sitting.

Know What to Expect on Assessment Day

How to Set up Your Exam

Watch the video to see the steps you'll need to follow to set up your assessment on the day.

You will receive an email with your exam link 72 hours before your exam, which is how you will access your assessment.

Your assessment will take place online through Surpass, with ProctorExam used to provide remote invigilation.

Understanding how the process works before assessment day will help you know what to expect and make sure you have everything you need.

How Your Online Assessment Works

Surpass is the online platform you will use to take your assessment.

During your assessment, ProctorExam is used to remotely invigilate your session.

Diploma in Treasury Management is invigilated by a live proctor who will watch your session in real time. They may provide instructions to you via the proctor chat box, if they have a concern.

Invigilation of all other assessments is recorded and reviewed by a proctor later. This means that you must follow the on-screen instructions and be familiar with what is permitted.

Before your assessment begins, you will be guided through a series of checks to confirm your identity, equipment and assessment environment.

TIP: The environment check does not use any of your exam time. You have one hour to set up your assessment and complete the checks, so take your time and do not stress.

What You Will Need

Have the following ready before starting your assessment:

  • • government-issued photo ID

  • • a permitted scientific calculator, if required

  • • up to six sheets of blank, white, unlined A4 paper

  • • a pen

  • • water in a clear bottle or glass, with any labels removed.

You will need to show everything on your desk to the camera during your environment check. You must pick up and display both sides of your paper.

You will be prompted to show your environment. Turn your mobile phone to show all four corners of your room and what is behind, above and below your desk.

You will also be prompted to show your government-issued photo ID.

If you cannot see yourself through your webcam or cannot take a clear image of your ID, do not proceed with the assessment until the webcam issue has been resolved.

What You Cannot Have

During your assessment, you must not use or wear:

  • • headphones or earphones

  • • a smart watch or fitness tracker

  • • smart glasses, or other wearable technology

  • • a notepad

  • • unauthorised notes or materials

  • • additional screens or devices.

You must show your wrists and ears as part of the environment check.

Breaks During Your Assessment

Bathroom breaks are not permitted during an online assessment, so make sure you use the bathroom before you begin.

If you have a medical reason that means you require a reasonable adjustment, review the Reasonable Adjustment Policy and contact the Assessment team before booking your assessment so the appropriate arrangements can be made.

Assessment Rules and Regulations

Make sure you are familiar with the Assessment Rules and Regulations before assessment day. Any breach of these rules may result in your assessment being disqualified.

Read the Assessment Rules and Regulations

Pre-Assessment Tips

Small things can make a big difference to how you feel on assessment day. We recommend that you:

  • • get a good night's sleep before your assessment

  • • have a light meal beforehand so you are comfortable during the assessment

  • • wear comfortable clothing, remembering that you will be recorded and the recording will be reviewed by a proctor

  • • have a clear bottle or glass of water nearby, in case you need a drink

  • • set your devices to do not disturb

  • • let anyone around you know when and where you are taking your assessment so you are not disturbed

  • • have your ID, calculator, paper and pen ready before you begin

  • • make sure your laptop and mobile device are fully charged or plugged in.

If you experience problems with your equipment or system setup, refer to the ProctorExam FAQs or contact the Assessment team.

Practise Before Your Assessment

Before assessment day, it is essential that you familiarise yourself with Surpass and how your assessment will appear on screen.

Set yourself up for success by practising on the exam platform. It will help you know what to expect on the day and means you won't need to spend valuable assessment time finding your way around the system.

TIP: Where possible, use the same device for your practice assessment and live assessment to make sure you get the same experience.

Using Surpass

The ACT assessment formats can include spreadsheet functionality and side-by-side viewing for resources such as formula sheets and case studies. Therefore, we recommend that your screen resolution should be 1920 x 1080 or greater.

If your screen resolution is smaller, resources may open in a separate window in front of the question. You can move or minimise this window to arrange your workspace in the way that suits you.

When using the PDF Viewer, you can choose between Automatic Zoom and Actual Size.

Use the practice exams to find the option you prefer.

There is no marking service available for practice papers, and answers entered into practice exams cannot be saved or retrieved.

If you want to keep a copy of your answers, we recommend copying them into a separate document so you can compare them with the mark scheme provided with the PDF practice paper.
