CBDCs: June 2025
This blog we cover the Bank of England’s Design note – Intermediary roles and scheme rulebook, the Digital Pound Lab and their report on offline payments, as well as the European Central Bank’s innovation platform to collaborate with European stakeholders in the context of the digital euro project.
In this update we cover the December meeting of the Bank of England’s CBDC Academic Advisory Group, the summary of work and design notes by The Bank of England on a digital pound, the ECB survey on consumer attitudes towards a central bank digital currency and the OMFIF survey - CBDCs: it’s time for action.
In this update we cover Project Mandala which aims to simplify cross border reporting compliance, and developments with Project Bridge. There is also a link to a report which suggests that, by 2031, the number of global payments made using CBDCs will reach 7.8 billion, up from 307.1 million in 2024.
In this update we cover the results of a global survey on CBDCs issued by the Bank for International Settlements. We also note the ground-breaking work on Project Helvetia III which made wholesale CBDCs available on the same platform where tokenised bonds were held – removing the need for cross-platform settlements activity.
