The ACT were delighted to be invited to the London Stock Exchange on 3 September to hear a member briefing on strategic capital resilience in uncertain times, followed by the market close ceremony.
Tariq Kazi, ACT President, spoke at the ceremony about the role of a treasurer: “Treasurers play a vital role in managing an organisation’s financial strategy, ensuring liquidity, funding, and risk management are aligned with business goals. Many of our members work within companies listed on the London Stock Exchange, making today’s event particularly meaningful.”
The panel session “Strategic Capital Management for Corporate Resilience in Uncertain Times”, which was held under the Chatham House rule, focused on the high levels of uncertainty and volatility seen so far in 2025, with analysis of some of the driving factors - such as the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. Successful navigation of volatile markets requires robust hedging policies, timely data, and preservation of optionality.
On a day when UK government long-term borrowing costs reached their highest level for 27 years, there was discussion of the strategic role of the corporate treasurer to ensure that they maintained access to a range of potential funding sources; and that those funding arrangements could be deployed swiftly and effectively when needed, thereby giving strategic optionality to their commercial business to react quickly in a rapidly changing world.
