The Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) has today congratulated the new Prime Minister and Chancellor on their appointments, and has set out ways in which the Government can take steps to enhance the UK as an attractive place to do business, in order to grow the economy.
As the voice of the real economy, the ACT supports policy that will enable corporates to have greater clarity, predictability and therefore confidence to contribute to the future growth of UK plc. Our headline proposals include: ensuring access to capital; upgrading skills and technology for the digital economy; promoting international trade and cooperation; and developing a standalone, coordinated strategy to attract and retain the next generation of corporate treasury centres.
“The new government has set out its ambition for ‘good growth in every postcode’. Delivering this will depend on creating the right conditions for businesses of all sizes to invest with greater confidence, avoiding the recent disconnect between pro-growth aspirations and delivery. Corporate treasurers are at the heart of financing those investments, unlocking capital to drive long-term growth and helping their organisations to manage associated risks.
That’s why we want to work with ministers to support a competitive and resilient business strategy which will attract and retain the next generation of corporate treasury centres in the UK. Doing so would strengthen the UK’s position as a global financial centre, in turn helping to finance new investment within the UK.”
The Association of Corporate Treasurers is the professional body for treasurers and associated roles in the UK and beyond. Our purpose is to set standards and deliver qualifications in treasury, support and develop treasurers throughout their careers, and ensure the voice of the real economy is heard by regulators, policymakers and employers. We were one of the first professional bodies in treasury, established in the 1970s, and we are the only treasury association to hold a Royal Charter.
