Technical and behavioural skills, particularly those needed to lead a high-performing treasury team, are essential for all treasurers in 2025.
Two of the three areas within the ACT Competency Framework are business and behavioural skills. Along with technical skills, they underpin excellence and best practice. Acquiring these skills enables all professionals to differentiate themselves from others more effectively, and increases the likelihood of progressing in the workplace.
This is highlighted in the Business of Treasury research which shows that more experienced treasurers identify a lack of leadership and strategic influencing skills as barriers to career progression. While for newer entrants, skills around efficient working practices are the greatest concern.
The treasury profession continues to evolve, and behavioural skills such as agility and resilience are key to ensuring that treasurers thrive, helping them to succeed in challenging environments and adapt in uncertain times.
And what about treasury recruitment? Have the requirements for treasurers – at all levels – changed in recent months and years? Are there skills that are coming to the fore which weren’t even on the list in the not-too-distant past?
The ACT Annual Conference is the perfect opportunity to brush up on your wider business skills. Alongside sessions such as the career development treasury lab, the main stage session ‘From the treasury to the boardroom’, where you will learn to align your financial strategy to business goals and a session with Tariq Kazi, President, Association of Corporate Treasurers, who will be exploring how treasurers are reacting in a challenging world, there is ample opportunity to catch up and network with colleagues – not only during the breaks, lunch and the new networking event on 20 May, but by taking part in breakout discussions, and by visiting the stands in the exhibition hall to expand your network as well as your knowledge.
So, use your time at the conference to talk to your peers and colleagues, banks, consultants and clients, and come to the ACT stand to find out what we are doing to support your business and behavioural skills.
