We are delighted to be running a programme of events aimed at those working in treasury for a not-for-profit organisation. The needs of those working in the not-for-profit sector are often different from those in the corporate world. We have worked with a group of ambassadors from a variety of organisations, as well as our own Chief Executive who has significant experience in the sector, to develop a series of events which focus specifically on those needs. We are running the series in conjunction with the Charity Finance Group.
Please join us for the first event in the series, which will take place on 15 September at 17.00 GMT.
Whether you are a treasurer of a large charity, housing association or higher education establishment, or you have treasury responsibilities as part of your finance role within a smaller organisation, this group has been set up to provide a forum for people to meet with others in similar roles to discuss the issues they face. With expert guest speakers, this session will provide an opportunity to hear from others, get best practice advice and tips, ask questions and share your own experience.
The opening session will be a roundtable discussion with the four ambassadors who form our not-for-profit working group. All are members of the ACT, have extensive experience in the not-for-profit world, and are passionate about this initiative. All are welcome to attend this session, not only ACT and CFG members, so please feel free to forward this to colleagues within your organisation and contacts at other not-for-profit organisations. The meeting will be held under Chatham House rule to encourage as much openness as possible. Future events will include expert presentations and tackle topics such as ESG, insurance, banks’ perceptions of not-for-profits, staff wellbeing and staff challenges particular to the sector.
Caroline Stockmann has been Chief Executive of the Association of Corporate Treasurers since February 2017.
Prior to that Caroline held the position of Chief Financial Officer at The British Council, the UK’s largest charity, and before that at Save the Children International. She has 25 years’ experience in senior finance, commercial and strategic posts at a number of commercial organisations including Novartis Pharmaceuticals (Switzerland), Cadbury Schweppes, Granada plc and Unilever/ Bestfoods (Thailand, Netherlands and UK). Much of her working life has been spent overseas.
Caroline trained with KPMG and is a Fellow (FCA) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW). She has an ICAEW Diploma in Charity Accounting and has filled numerous roles on boards over the years, some current roles including being a member of the Finance and Investment Committee of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Deputy Chair of the European Association of Corporate Treasurers and the International Group of Treasury Associations, as well as President of the National Association of Corporate Treasurers (US). Caroline is a linguist, musician, trained coach and passionate bell ringer, and is married with two children.

Brian Cheyne has been the Director of Treasury Services at the Open University since 2009. During that period he has introduced three Money Market Fund managers to provide both diversification, enhance yield and to manage liquidity. The University has also added their Long Term Investment Fund Managers during this time to provide an enhanced return in excess of inflation on the surplus cash held by the University. Previously he has worked for twenty-three years in banking as Head of Treasury Accounts at Girobank and Alliance & Leicester.
Edward Collis is both a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of the Association of Corporate Treasurers. He has been a Corporate Treasurer for over twenty six years, and in the last twenty years he has held senior treasury positions including leading treasury functions at Rentokil Initial plc, VIrgin Atlantic Airways and Zahid Tractor. Most recently, and the for the last three and a half years, Edward has moved to the not-for-profit sector to lead Save the Children International's treasury function based out of London.
Tariq Kazi is the Director of Corporate Finance at Optivo, a housing association that owns and manages 45,000 homes for social and affordable rent and low cost home ownership. He is also a Board Member of Stonewater, a 32,000 homes housing association and Trustee of New Economics Foundation, an independent think tank. Tariq's earlier career was in audit and corporate banking.
Annemarie Moore is Director of Plan Treasury Services and a Fellow of the Association of Corporate Treasurers, a Member of the Association of Global Development Treasurers and has spent time on The Treasury Specialist Interest Group -CFG, OSSIG-CFG steering committee.
Plan International Inc has €1bn turnover and operates in over 60 countries.
Annemarie has worked in Treasury in banking, corporate, consulting and not for profit since the late 1980’s and held the position of Treasurer and Treasury Manager for various banks prior to moving to the not for profit sector.
Annemarie is passionate about the external treasury world recognising that NGO’s are corporate and has been know to respond to the question ‘’do you have difficulty making banks recognise you are a charity?” with “no, I have difficulty making them realise we are a corporate.”.
