It has been a varied path! I previously worked in the public sector at a number of Central London Local Authorities. I began working in the urban realm and public planning sphere, working on the finances for a European Social Fund project which piqued my interest in the world of accounting and finance. After this revelation, I landed my first role in treasury, and I’ve now pivoted towards working in treasury in the private sector.
Certainly the forward planning element, I enjoy considering the many effective ways that cash can be managed. I am also fond of the communicative element of treasury, engaging with external counterparties and internal departments.
Having worked in treasury now just over 2.5 years, I felt I had a lot more to learn about the profession. The CertTF provides a terrific overview of essential terminology, calculations and procedures that link directly into my day-to-day role as a Treasury Analyst.
I like that the content considers treasury on an international scale, as a geographer, I like this global element to the learning. I also value the clear examples of key calculations that are provided in all 3 units.
The market uncertainty surrounding interest rates, will interest rates peak this financial year? Technological updates to the existing software I am frequently using.
I am currently working for Tideway. Tideway are progressing with a considerable feat of human engineering by building an enormous super sewer that will keep the River Thames clean for generations. Working in finance for an engineering project can be dynamic and fast paced.
That learning is a lifelong process.
