Summer is the perfect time to step away from your desk, meet new people and strengthen existing professional relationships. In treasury, networking is particularly valuable. Ours is a relatively small but highly connected profession, where relationships, shared experiences and trusted connections can play an important role in career development and professional growth.
At the ACT, we are fortunate to be part of a vibrant treasury community that brings together members, students, corporate treasurers, advisers, bankers and suppliers from across the treasury ecosystem. Whether you are new to the profession or a seasoned practitioner, networking provides opportunities to learn from others, exchange ideas and build relationships that can support your career for years to come.
Recent months have seen a fantastic range of member networking events take place across the UK and beyond. Members gathered in London on 3 June, Glasgow on 4 June, Birmingham on 18 June and Manchester on 30 June. We have also enjoyed successful events in Zurich and Hong Kong, alongside a fantastic pre-conference member social at this year's Annual Conference in Liverpool.
These events are a key member benefit and one of the many ways the ACT helps members stay connected to the profession. Our network Ambassadors, working closely with the Membership team, create welcoming and inclusive environments where everyone is encouraged to participate. If you are attending for the first time, there's no need to feel shy—our Ambassadors are always happy to make introductions and help new attendees feel at home.
So why is networking important? Beyond developing and maintaining professional relationships, networking can help raise your profile, broaden your perspective and open doors to future career opportunities. It can also help you build valuable connections with peers, clients and suppliers, while keeping your professional knowledge fresh and up to date. Member events provide a relaxed setting to meet interesting people facing similar challenges and opportunities in their roles.
To get the most out of networking events:
• Arrive with an open mind and a willingness to start conversations.
• Focus on building genuine relationships rather than collecting contacts.
• Ask questions and show interest in others' experiences.
• Follow up afterwards with the people you've met.
• Attend regularly—the strongest networks are built over time.
A huge thank you to our Network Ambassadors, event hosts and, of course, the members and students who make these events such a success. Your enthusiasm and support helps keep our treasury community thriving.
If you'd like to develop your networking confidence further, particularly if networking doesn't come naturally to you, read our article: Future Leader Perspectives: Networking for Introverts at https://www.treasurers.org/membership/future-leader-perspectives-network....
We look forward to welcoming you at a future ACT networking event. Your next valuable connection could be just one conversation away.
