MediCinema

MediCinema

This year, the nominated charity we will be supporting is MediCinema. The choice of charities continues our policy of channelling support where our fundraising and promotion can make a significant difference.

MediCinema is a charity dedicated to bringing the power of cinema and film to patients across the UK.

The idea behind MediCinema is extremely simple – build and manage state-of-the-art cinemas in hospitals and health facilities for the use of patients (in wheelchairs, beds, on drips or monitors), carers, friends and families to escape the isolation of wards and illness to enjoy a few hours of normality. They are free for patients and their families to use and designed specifically for a healthcare setting with dedicated nursing staff on stand-by.

Founded in 1999 at St Thomas’s Hospital by Christine Hill MBE, patients are able to enjoy the escapism, magic and excitement that a trip to the cinema brings – in a safe, stimulating, relaxing and sociable environment.

The difference MediCinema made to patients was obvious from the start and now, less than 20 years later, they have seven ultra-modern MediCinema across the UK.

A truly amazing facility, a unique experience and one I intend to repeat many times. Not only a fabulous feast for the eyes but a truly immersive experience - a place you can come to, forget your troubles and lose yourself in a world of fun and fantasy. Aneurun, aged 15
