Joseph de Maistre, a lawyer from Savoy, once observed that “every nation gets the government it deserves”. As an editor, I have no qualms about hijacking that quote to say that “every readership gets the magazine it deserves”. Treasurers are a skilled group of people who play a crucial role in business and fi nance around the world. You have also studied hard, you probably work long hours and your role requires you to take on a very high level of responsibility. For these reasons, both the ACT and I believe you deserve the very best magazine that we can give you.
But we also need your input to ensure that the magazine meets your needs today and in the future. With this in mind, we will be running an online reader survey where you can share your views on the magazine easily and anonymously. We want to get the views of all our readers, whether they are based in the UK or abroad. To complete the reader research survey, please visit www.treasurers.org/readersurvey Besides our research, we are also keen to hear from members of the ACT and foreign treasury associations who would like to share best practice with other readers of The Treasurer by writing articles for the magazine. If you would like to contribute, please contact me at editor@treasurers.org
As editor of your magazine, I have worked closely with both the ACT and with treasurers over the past 12 months. A year down the line, I think this is a chance for me to say how much I appreciate the warm welcome that you have given me and the fact that so many of you come up and introduce yourselves to me at ACT events. Please don’t stop – I like talking to you and hearing your views and, often, it’s a good opportunity for me to persuade you to appear in The Treasurer!
Also, I continue to be very impressed by the quality of events that the ACT hosts on a regular basis – the recent supply chain fi nance briefi ng is a good case in point – so if you haven’t been along to an event for a while, I urge you to take a look at the calendar on page 12 and block out some time in your diary to attend a briefing, conference or networking event.
I hope you enjoy the July/August 2013 issue of The Treasurer and that you have a relaxing and enjoyable summer.
