I’ve been with RBS for 7 years now and have been lucky enough to undertake a wide variety of roles – from advising some of our largest customers to reviewing how we most effectively serve our SME customer base and even a spell in RBS’ Treasury team. I was promoted to my current role as Director in 2018.
My previous role was in Structured Finance where I delivered debt solutions in the infrastructure sector across Western Europe. The job was very demanding and the sheer variety of transactions I got involved in was challenging, which meant I was constantly learning.
My customers are principally corporate treasurers – so the AMCT offered a great opportunity to better understand the financial markets from a treasury perspective.
For the same reason that I decided to take the AMCT. Our customers are corporate treasurers, so why wouldn’t you want to engage with them as much as possible.
I enjoy flicking through The Treasurer, usually whilst crammed into a rush hour train on the way to work. I also attend as many ACT events as I can – the content is uniformly interesting and valuable, and the drinks afterwards are usually even better.
I’ve always thought personal development of young professionals is incredibly important for the industry, and so I was keen to get involved in the group to help build on this agenda. It’s so important to have a network of peers to learn from. Plus getting to organise drink events in the City has its perks!
There really is no substitute for getting out and talking to people. I learn far more in an hour or two speaking to customers, or at a networking event, than by reading a textbook.
I’m one of the most tech adverse millenials you will ever meet. Having said that, like most bankers, coping without my Blackberry would be pretty difficult.
There is no such thing as a stupid question.
Adults in the Room - Yanis Varoufakis. A very readable account of the Eurozone debt crisis, as well as giving a pretty scary picture of the realities of European politics.
