I worked at RBS on the Project Finance syndications desk and then moved to Scotiabank nine years ago. I joined as an Associate and was responsible for credit analysis. I am now a global Relationship Manager and cover European clients in the Industrials sector.
As a banker, I speak to treasurers all the time so it was important for me to understand how treasury teams are set up and what are the most important considerations for treasurers.
I find myself pulling up information that I have learnt through my studies all the time, especially when talking to clients.
I think for banking, technology is going to be key on a number of levels - keeping up with changes in the market, internal data management and analytics, and compliance with regulation.
Aside from the study materials including the past exam papers which were invaluable, I also find the networking events very useful, such as the NED event and the Future Leaders evenings.
I think charities could benefit from the different technical and soft skills that bankers and treasurers can offer, and more importantly, I think there is a lot we can learn from volunteering!
Learn to forgive.
Very basic but a remote control!
I would invite Mata Khivi, who helped to set up ‘langar’ which is the Sikh concept of a free community kitchen offering food to everyone.
I have to say my happiest ACT memory was receiving the final results of my Certificate in Treasury exams and finding out I had passed!
I would also like to say Happy 40th Anniversary ACT and thank you to everyone at the ACT who has been so helpful with my studies and with introducing me to the ACT network.
