Treasury is a forward looking industry. I like this aspect as well as its focus on risk management and the role the treasury department plays to assist the company (and/or subsidiaries) in meeting its objectives.
I think it is an exciting place to work because the treasury team operates in an ever changing landscape both internally and externally, with variables that the team must navigate in order to keep the firm on course to meets its objectives.
Treasury is a much more specialised profession and you tend to come across treasury less frequently than you do accountancy or other professions. The ACT could appeal more to recent graduates by organising specific events at universities to raise the awareness of the ACT and what a career in treasury entails.
My mentor has been very helpful and has acted as a sounding board; providing a ‘guiding light’ – helping me to take the next steps within my career.
Guidance and advice from somebody who has been in your shoes is invaluable. You will gain a lot by joining the scheme and finding a mentor.
