Marina Petroleka, Global Head of ESG Research at Sustainable Fitch gives an update on where we are with the transition to net zero, adaptation financing and a move to a greater focus on social issues. The conversation will then link back to market developments, looking at recent developments in the taxonomies, especially that of the EU, along with disclosures and fundraising activities. Marina Petroleka is Global Head of ESG Research in Sustainable Fitch, based in London. In her role, Marina leads a global team of research analysts undertaking detailed research and credit-relevant analysis on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) themes and cross-sector trends, as well as supporting and providing input for ESG-related research from all Fitch’s different analytical group areas.
Marina joined Sustainable Fitch from Fitch Ratings’ Credit Policy Group where was the EMEA Regional Credit Officer. Her main responsibilities were leading cross sector, thematic credit research to ensure comprehensive analysis and awareness on major credit risks, across asset classes, but with a focus on Corporates.
Marina joined Fitch Ratings in April 2020 from Fitch Solutions where she was Global Head of Industry Research since 2016. In her role she led ten teams of more than 60 senior industry analysts, based in Fitch’s offices in London, Singapore, New York and Johannesburg. Her primary role involved providing strategic guidance and fostering thought-leadership across the different areas of industry research. She has led major research projects on Industry Megatrends, Sustainability and Industry Investment Attractiveness models. She was also responsible for ensuring coherence between global macroeconomic, political risk and industry analysis and that Fitch Solutions’ forecasts and industry insights were consistently value added and ahead of the curve.
Previously, she lead BMI Research’s Energy and Infrastructure team and for nearly a decade her expertise has been in the energy sector, both the conventional and unconventional Oil & Gas sectors, as well as infrastructure development policy in North America, Europe, Africa, China and the Middle East.
Prior to joining Fitch Solutions (then BMI Research) in 2007, Marina interned at the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) in Istanbul; the Ministry of Merchant Marine in Athens; and the Office of the Political Advisor to the Commander, NATO HQ, Brunssum, Netherlands.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in War Studies, and an M.A. in International Security and Development, both from King's College, University of London.
Naresh has spent 30 years in a variety of treasury roles spanning industry and advisory firms. At PwC he was the UK Lead for Cash Management and Payments where he helped lead the firm’s work on payments, Brexit, treasury controls, Blockchain, operational resilience and target operating model design and implementation. He won an Innovation award for his proposition around mobile payments. Prior to PwC, Naresh spent almost 20 years in industry across a range of organisations including BP, Heron Property, Cable and Wireless and Fujitsu taking on roles such as analyst, dealer and treasurer.
