An early start to day two. So early it took us in to the world of futurist Rohit Talwar. As someone who has to work hard with his own intelligence, your correspondent isn’t entirely comfortable with the concept of artificial intelligence taking over the world!
Futurists though are generally a positive bunch seeing useful tools and trusting in human intelligence to work out new ways of living. There’s no doubt that the pace of change and impact of intelligent technology is weeping all before it. Can we keep up?
That was reinforced during a lively Question Time (which also saw a Brexit debate, questions on corporate tax, business ethics and more besides). In particular the panel stressed that trust is hard won but easily lost – by businesses, individuals and governments – and that protecting that level of risk is everyone’s job. Mind you one of our panellists was quite impressed with the business model of ISIS / Daesh so it’s never too late to look at the world through different eyes! That might be taking integrity, influence and innovation a tad far but that’s for you to judge!
Clearly the highlight of our second day is the gala evening and maybe I am biased but I tend to believe that its enjoyment comes from the amount of time and effort that’s put in during the day. Hard work so I’m told by some is it’s own reward; personally good food and great company always make up for a hard day’s work. (I am contractually obliged to insert a Beatles reference in my blog so this is as good as it gets!)
Your correspondent will of course remain almost entirely sober and well behaved. We’ll see tomorrow if that was true. Or I could just say I did and hope you believe me! Keep an eye on the ACT Facebook page for evidence!
