Welcome to the new look for The Treasurer. Having been used to the old style for so long, I hope it doesn’t come as too much of a shock. I would like to thank Sarah Duree, the designer, and Sue Ennis, the production manager, for all their hard work in putting the new design together. Please feel free to send us any comments you might have about the new style.
The major change in terms of content is the enhanced Marketwatch section, which includes the Hotline on technical treasury issues, as well as news and information on all your favourite topics: cash management, capital markets, FX, tax and accounting. There will also be an ‘occasional’ column Percentages summarising surveys – but given the number of them out there, it will probably become a regular feature.
Part of the difficulty in putting together these pages is in sifting through the enormous amount of information that we come across – having said that, if I am not on your press release list, please include me.
I have also been optimistic and introduced a Letters page. This should provide an opportunity for readers to let off steam or make apposite comment about issues which are annoying them, or at least warn their fellow treasurers of any sharp practices they are encountering – please don’t be shy; your details will be kept confidential if you so choose.
This month’s Spotlight highlights the ever-growing issue of regulation. Businesses are complaining about over-regulation already and there is still more in the pipeline. We are pleased to have articles from two figures central to the issue, Digby Jones of the CBI and Carol Sergeant from the FSA. While Sarah Gabriel points out what you to do in the event of a regulator turning up on your doorstep.
Finally, I would urge all members of the Association to read this month’s Association pages, starting on page 60. President of the Association, Anthony Stern, outlines key changes to our governance structure and Chris Jones, Chairman of the Member Services Commitee, explains the concept of corporate membership.
