There are several reasons why we spend a fair (or unfair, depending on your experience!) amount of our childhood building our knowledge and preparing ourselves for the adult world in a classroom - the face-to-face interaction with a subject expert is an established, tried and tested approach to learning.
It makes perfect sense to have an authority figure to guide you through your learning. So it seems slightly ludicrous to think that, when we’re learning as adults, that expert figure is not required.
In this series of blogs, I'm covering five key reasons why, if you’re studying an ACT qualification, you should seriously consider one, or all, of the many face-to-face learning options available to you.
School may or may not have been a safe environment for you, but now that you are studying (or perhaps thinking about studying) a treasury qualification, the safe, secure and encouraging classroom settings the ACT offer will help you pass in style.
One of the reasons people often will not post online in forums is because they don’t want to look stupid when they ask a question. People generally feel more comfortable in a face-to-face environment asking questions and the tutor is able to gain a greater sense of whether people are really grasping things and can encourage questions and debate.
Classrooms also offer the benefit of discussion amongst peers and practice exercises, both of which allow learners to experiment with ideas and concepts without embarrassment or fear of doing damage back in the workplace. As the classroom is a live environment there’s also an opportunity to get immediate feedback if you are doing something wrong and support to show you the correct way of doing things. This means you are more likely to have corrected or enhanced your understanding before you get to an exam environment.
In the final blog of this series, I’ll outline the networking benefits classroom learning offers. The ACT welcomes your comments, so please feel free to post them here-don’t be afraid to post online!
